Adding, editing and deleting elements

Adding and deleting elements during an interview

It is currently not possible to change the number of elements during the interview.

Editing element labels during the interview

You can edit elements, either for a project or an interview, using the “Add/edit elements” command, which can be found on the right side of the page. You can do so at any time during the interview.

This function is meant to be used for making minor changes, like correcting typographical errors. You should not make significant changes, e.g. putting new elements in place of the ones already specified, after you’ve started an interview. CLAD has no way of distinguishing major from minor changes in the description of elements, therefore making major changes after the interview has started would lead to possible confusion and non-valid results.

You can change the number of elements by using the “Edit interview” or “Edit project” command. Please note that it is not possible to modify the number of elements for a project or interview after elements have been rated on any construct within an interview (that belongs to a project). If you really need to change the number of elements for the interview or project, you have to delete all constructs (in all interviews within a project) that have rating data connected to them. You can, however, always create a new project, or a new interview, and specify the desired number of elements. You can, however, always create a new project, or a new interview in which you can determine the desired number of elements.

Deleting (flushing) elements

Elements used in a project or a single interview can be deleted using the “Delete elements” command on the right side of the page. Deletion of elements is possible only in the case where there is no data connected to already specified elements.

In case where you want to delete elements for a project (when interviews within the project share common elements) and interviews, which have ratings of elements on at least one construct, already exist within this project, CLAD will refuse to execute the command. If CLAD executed the command under these conditions, the data would be left in an inconsistent state. If interviews which block the execution of “Delete elements” command are just test interviews, please delete them, and it will be possible to remove already specified elements.

In case where you want to delete elements for a single interview (when interviews within the project do not share common elements), CLAD will refuse to execute the command if ratings of elements on constructs already exist for the interview in question. If you want to delete elements for the interview, please remove constructs on which elements are already rated.
